Niagara Falls Meals on Wheels is a non-profit, volunteer service providing home delivery of hot and/or frozen nutritious, well-balanced meals to:

  • Senior citizens who cannot prepare or obtain a well-balanced meal for themselves
  • An individual who is mentally and/or physically challenged, regardless of age
  • Adult convalescents discharged from a care facility, regardless of age
  • An adult at nutritional risk, regardless of age

Deliveries are made Monday through Friday at noontime in Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake
Clients do not have to receive delivery every day, but the schedule must be for the same days each week.

Personal contact and a check on the well-being of the client is also an invaluable part of the service.

All meals are kept to a reasonable and affordable cost to the client.

Clients may participate in any or all of the following service programs

Programs Available

Hot Meals

  • The meal is a balanced diet consisting of soup; an entree of meat, fish or fowl, with two vegetables and potato, rice or pasta and dessert.
  • Meals are provided on a four-week cycle of menus.  Although there is no choice of menu, substitutions will be made for a limited number of food preferences and intolerances.
  • All therapeutic diets (e.g. diabetic, salt restricted, etc.) can be accommodated.
  • Meals are prepared by Staff and packed by volunteers at the Greater Niagara General Hospital, under the supervision of qualified dietitians.
  • The meals are delivered by dedicated and friendly Volunteers Monday through Friday between 11:00am and 1:00pm in both Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Frozen Meals

  • The meal consists of an entrée, dessert and/ or soup
  • Meals are prepared at the Niagara Ina Grafton Gage Home in St. Catharines under the supervision of qualified dietitians.
  • Meals are delivered each Tuesday afternoon in Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake.
  • Clients make their own selections from a five-week cycle of menus.
  • Orders must be submitted by 10:00 a.m.  on Thursday for delivery the following Tuesday.
  • There is no minimum nor maximum to the number of meals ordered.

Congregate Dining

  • The purpose of these events is to encourage socialization among Senior Citizens living in apartment buildings.
  • Lunch is served once a month in the common rooms of various locations throughout Niagara Falls.
  • Residents indicate their intention to attend by signing a list posted two weeks prior to the luncheon.
  • Food is prepared by a local Deli and consists of an entrée of meat or poultry with vegetables, potato or pasta, rolls, butter, dessert and beverage.

Wheels to Meals

  • The main focus of these events is socialization.
  • Volunteers provide transportation for seniors to have lunch at a local restaurant once a month.

How do I Order?

Any of the meal services may be obtained by calling (905) 356-7548 or (905) 356-9194
Mon. through Thurs. 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and Friday 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Messages that are left on the answering machine will be returned promptly. Service can usually begin within 2 days.

May I cancel delivery?

Cancellations may be made any time up to 9:00 am on the day of scheduled delivery and there will be no charge for that meal.
If a meal has not been cancelled and there is no one home at the time of delivery, the meal will not be left and the client will be billed for it.

When and how do I pay?

Detailed statements are sent out at the end of each month, either directly to the client by a volunteer or by mail to the person responsible for payment.
Payment may be made by: Cash, Cheque, Money order or E-transfer.   Cheques payable to:  Meals on Wheels
Volunteers will gladly collect payment from the client and return it to the office.
Payment for Congregate Dining and Wheels to Meals events is due and collected the day  of the event.
