Our Purpose
- To provide meal services at a reasonable cost to convalescents, elderly, persons living with a disability or caregivers.
- To provide a social contact and a security check.
- To assist those wishing to maintain independence in their own homes.
Referrals
Self referrals are welcome. Also, clients may be referred by professionals (e.g. doctors, public health nurse, hospital discharge planner), or family members, or friends.
Delivery
Hot meals are delivered between 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Monday through Friday to the Port Colborne, Gasline/Sherkston and Wainfleet areas.
Frozen meals are ordered and delivered on a weekly basis.

Programs Available
Hot Meals
Meals are prepared by the dietary staff at Port Colborne General Hospital. Menus consist of soup, entrée of meat, fish, poultry or alternate, two vegetables, fruit and/or dessert. Specialized diets are available. Current cost is $4.00
Frozen Meals
Frozen meals are available in addition to the hot meal deliveries for use on weekends, non-delivery days, when company is coming, as an evening meal, or when a hot meal is missed because of an appointment, outing or an emergency. Frozen meals include an entrée plus a dessert. Current cost is $4.70
Wheels to Meals
This program gives persons the opportunity to have lunch out, usually the last Thursday of each month, at McKellar Hall, Port Colborne General Hospital. Transportation is provided if necessary. Clients are encouraged to bring a friend or relative along. Current cost is $4.00
Payment
Bills are issued monthly for all meals received during the previous month.
Cancellation
If a meal is to be cancelled, 24 hours notice is requested if possible.
Meal delivery is usually cancelled when the schools are closed due to inclement weather. An announcement will be made on Spirit 91.7 FM radio station. Every effort is made to notify recipients of any changes in service delivery.
Volunteers
Meals on Wheels relies on volunteers to assist with meal deliveries, with kitchen assembly and with the Wheels to Meals program. Volunteers also serve as members of the Board of Directors. New volunteers are always welcome.

Support for our programs comes from:
- The Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care
- The United Way of South Niagara
- Public donations including bequests and memorial donations
Official receipts for income tax purposes are issued for donations over $5.00
